This beautiful flat-flowered yellow is a great garden plant and a useful breeder. The plant is nice, the scapes are well-branched and the flowers are a lovely light canary yellow that is very flat, open and somewhat textural with a bright green throat. The foliage is senescent (dormant) and goes almost completely underground here during winter. Siloam Mama blooms for a long period of time and makes an extremely attractive garden display.
Siloam Mama is fertile both ways, and easily sets pods, which is unusual for the flat-flowered, yellow Siloam cultivars. The plant shows very good rust resistance here and I have several reports of it showing rust resistance in other gardens. I have produced many rust resistant seedlings from Siloam Mama. It also blends very well with the Substantial Evidence family line for producing flat flowers.
