Purple Many Faces

Purple Many Faces

Ned Roberts – 1995 – (Parentage unknown) – Dip – 28” – 9” – ML – Frag – Sev – UFO crispate – Purple self with yellow throat

This is a very nicely colored purple unusual form cultivar that has a beautiful bright green throat. The semi-evergreen foliage is attractive and the plant is hardy here in my garden. The plant is a fast increaser and produces a nice clump that is very impressive in the garden with its big purple flowers.

Purple Many Faces has susceptibility to rust here in my garden and I haven’t bred from it much. From those seedlings I have raised, I haven’t had any show much resistance, even when it has been crossed to resistant plants. However, the color is gorgeous and it performs well here even after having had rust the previous year. I think for those who want to focus on very nice purple color it may be useful, especially if there is no concern about rust. I think it has good breeding possibilities and great garden applications in rust-free gardens.
