Dad's Best White
Viette - 1984 – Dip – 28” – 6” – Mid – Dorm – Near white self
Dad’s Best White is a lovely white diploid that is a very useful plant for both garden and breeding uses. The flower is near-white of a very light tone that looks very clean and bright in the garden. It blooms well, producing a lot of flowers and occasionally reblooms here in my garden. The petals are narrow and elegant. The plant increases well and establishes quickly after division. An established clump seems to be able to grow for many years without requiring division. The foliage is senescent (dormant) and it has more attractive foliage than many white cultivars, though the foliage is still not what I would call gorgeous.
Dad’s Best White shows very good rust resistance and breeding value for rust resistance. In addition, due to the narrower petals, it can produce very nice unusual form and even spider offspring, often in near white or very clean pastel tones.
