Charlie Pierce Memorial
C. Pierce – 1987 – Parentage unknown – Dip – 24” – 6” – EM – Sev – Re – Ext – Lavender with wine purple eyezone and green throat
This lovely flower is an excellent little cultivar, being a great cultivar and breeding plant. The flower is large and very pretty. It is fairly flat and opens well here, and is an excellent plant to breed Substantial Evidence family members across. The eye is very pretty and there is a slight pattern that radiates from the eye in rays into the throat. I have gotten some nicely patterned eyes when crossed to patterned cultivars.
The foliage of Charlie Pierce Memorial is attractive, low and a nice shade of dark green, and it is a hardy semi-evergreen, flourishing here in my zone 6 garden. It is reported to do well in the north and the south. It is very fertile both ways and has produced nice seedlings for me. This cultivar is also very rust resistant and shows good breeding value for the trait. I have several anecdotal reports on the high rust resistance of this cultivar and its breeding value for the trait.
